Beishan National Forest Park

Beishan National Forest Park, originally known as Huzhu Beishan Forest Farm, was established in 1959. After over 40 years of management, the natural forests have been effectively protected and restored, featuring intact vegetation and well-arranged forest landscapes. In November 1992, it was approved by the former Ministry of Forestry to become Huzhu Beishan National Forest Park in Qinghai Province.

The park is located in the transitional zone from the Loess Plateau to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, with terrain sloping from northwest to southeast. Its elevation ranges from 2,100 to 4,308 meters, with the highest point being Nanshan Ezuoling at 4,308 meters. Generally, the relative height difference between mountain peaks is around 1,000 meters. The park covers a total area of 112,794.7 hectares, with a forest coverage rate of 64.3%. The total forest stock volume is 4.2 million cubic meters, making it one of the best-preserved natural forest resources in Qinghai Province. It boasts rich flora and fauna, including 981 species of higher plants and nearly 200 species of wild animals. Due to the climate, altitude, and geographical location, the natural forest area features distinct vertical distribution landscape zones, with clear zonation. Coniferous forests, broad-leaved forests, alpine shrubs, and alpine meadows together create a diverse forest landscape. It is one of the most intact natural ecological zones in Qinghai, renowned as the “Kingdom of Plants” and “Natural Zoo” on the Qinghai Plateau. The mountains serve as green islands, wet islands, cool islands, and water islands in an arid region.
