A short stroll up the trail behind Huzhu Elementary School soon reveals an unexpected sea of white plum blossoms… This is a hidden “plum blossom viewing spot” located in Ren’ai Township, Nantou County — no noisy crowds, no honking buses or cars,just the fiercely blooming blossoms on over 2,000 ancient plum trees, officially heralding the arrival of plum blossom season.

When mentioning Ren’ai Township in Nantou County, many might find the name unfamiliar, but if you bring up its other name — “Wushe” — you’ll probably have an “aha” moment. Entering Huzhu Elementary School in Ren’ai Township and stepping onto the red-track playground, the sight of blooming white plum blossoms can already be spotted in the distance. Following the winding mountain path that gently climbs uphill, you’ll see proud rows of plum trees lining both sides of the trail.

There are about 2,000 plum trees growing along the mountain slopes here, reportedly all around 40 to 50 years old, yet the blossoms on their branches show that these plum trees are still “going strong in their old age.” Because this place lies among the mountains and rivers, far from the hustle and bustle, untouched by urbanization, it has nurtured many breathtaking natural sceneries. In recent years, it has gradually emerged as a “new hidden gem for plum blossom viewing.”

Although recent weather across Taiwan has seen occasional showers and mountain areas are often shrouded in fog, it hasn’t diminished the stunning sight of plum blossoms all over the mountains. Wang Yuan-chung, Director of Nantou County Tourism Bureau, also noted that plum blossoms in Huzhu Village are now about 80% in bloom — making it a perfect time for plum blossom viewing. If you wish to avoid traffic and crowds and enjoy the delicate fragrance of plum blossoms in a tranquil environment, this “new hidden gem for plum blossom viewing” is well worth a visit.
