Guandi Anti-Japanese Martyrs' Memorial Monument

The Guandi Anti-Japanese Martyrs' Memorial Monument is a cultural relic protection unit of Yuanping City.

The Guandi Anti-Japanese Martyrs' Memorial Monument is located on the mountainside of Nainai Mountain, about 200 meters northwest of Guandi Village, Duanjiabao Township, Yuanping City. In the 35th year of the Republic of China (1946), the government of Guo County erected a monument in Shikou, northwest of the village, to commemorate the martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the Anti-Japanese War. The monument consists of four pieces of limestone, with a total height of 3.4 meters; the main body is cubic in shape, topped with a trapezoidal cover, with the cover being 0.8 meters high. The body of the monument is 1.6 meters tall and 0.7 meters wide, and it sits on a base. The front side is inscribed in regular script with “Anti-Japanese Martyrs’ Memorial Monument,” with the inscription “Tribute to the Comrades Who Sacrificed for the Anti-Japanese Martyrs of Guoyang” and a list of martyrs carved on both sides. The back side is engraved with the phrases “Spirit Immortal” and “Falling One After Another, Merits to the Nation.” In 1981, the Yuanping County People’s Government designated it as a county (city)-level cultural relic protection unit. Guandi Village: Guandi Village is located in the eastern part of Duanjiabao Township, Yuanping City, adjacent to Tuhuo Village. The Xishan Circular Road runs east-west through the village. Guandi Village is the largest village in the Xishan area and also a revolutionary old base. To the north of the village stands the Revolutionary Martyrs’ Memorial Monument. The village boasts vast land and outstanding people. It is one of the main coal-producing areas in Yuanping City and originally had three coal mines, which have now been integrated by the Xinzhou Local Coal Group. Legend has it that Li Jingwang of the Tang Dynasty once established a princely residence here and hung a plaque inscribed with “Xing’an Grand View,” hence the area was once called Xing’an Town.
