Yuanping Erlang Temple

Yuanping Erlang Temple is a cultural relic protection unit of Yuanping City.

Erlang Temple is situated in Xiadalin Village, Dalin Township, Yuanping City. It faces east and spans 40 meters from east to west and 37 meters from north to south, with a total area of 1,480 square meters. Its exact construction date is unknown. Records from the beam frames and surviving stone fragments indicate that it underwent renovations during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty (1522–1566), the 61st year of the Kangxi reign (1722), the 5th year of the Qianlong reign (1740), and the 45th year of the Qianlong reign (1780). The temple follows a single-courtyard layout, with the Offering Hall and the Erlang Hall situated along the central axis, flanked by the Guan Yu Hall and the Dragon King Hall. The Erlang Hall is three bays wide and five rafters deep, featuring a six-rafter front porch-style framework and a single-eave hanging hip roof. The bracket sets are exquisitely crafted, and the building components are well-preserved, showcasing a distinctive architectural style from the Ming and Qing periods. Xiadalin Village: Located slightly northwest of central Yuanping City, Xiadalin Village borders National Highway 108 and the Tongpu Railway to the east, and extends to the banks of the Yangwu River to the south. It has long been known as the “water-rich land of eighteen villages.” During the Republican era, disputes and even fights over water rights were common, and stone tablets recording the resolutions of water conflicts by the then magistrate of Guo County still remain. The village has a population of over 2,100 and cultivates more than 5,800 mu of arable land. The flat and fertile fields, nourished by the Yangwu River, have supported generations of residents. Historically serving as the seat of the township government and people’s commune, it remains the political, cultural, and economic hub of Dalin Township.
