Shangshi Temple Pagoda

Shangshi Temple Pagoda is a cultural relic protection unit of Yuanping City.

Shangshi Temple Pagoda is located on a hilly plateau 300 meters west of Shangshi Village, Guoyang Town, Yuanping City. According to inscriptions, it was built in the 12th year of the Zhengde era during the Ming Dynasty (1517) and is a hexagonal single-story Lama stone pagoda. The pagoda stands 7 meters tall and faces south. Its base is hexagonal, topped with two tiers of waist-contracted Sumeru pedestals, which are 2.3 meters high, with relief carvings of upturned and downturned lotus patterns on the waist. The body of the pagoda is a single-story circular stupa shape, with a pointed arched oculus door on the southern side. The finial consists of five tiers of hexagonal spires, topped with a canopy, an upturned lotus, and a precious bead. Shangshi Village: Shangshi Village is located 7.5 kilometers west of Guoyang Town, Yuanping City, Shanxi Province, 4 kilometers east of the Datong-Yuncheng Expressway and 3 kilometers south of the Guoyang-Wu Railway. It enjoys a superior geographical location with flat terrain, fertile land, and convenient transportation, making it a suburban-type village. The village covers a total area of 6 square kilometers, with 5,404 mu of arable land. There are 351 households and a population of 1,183.
