Dongguan Guan Yu Temple

Dongguan Guan Yu Temple is a cultural heritage site protected by Yuanping City.

Dongguan Guan Yu Temple, located in Dongguan Village, Guoyang Town, Yuanping City, stands 100 meters east of the eastern gate of Guoyang ancient city. Facing south with its back to the north, it stretches 24.5 meters from east to west and 87 meters from north to south, covering an area of 2,218 square meters. The exact date of its establishment is unknown. According to inscriptions on the beams of the main hall, it was renovated in the third year of the Xianfeng reign during the Qing Dynasty (1853), and the existing structures are in the Qing Dynasty style. The temple follows a two-courtyard layout, with a screen wall, main gate, main hall, and Goddess Hall arranged along the central axis, flanked by side halls on the east and west. The main hall sits on a brick platform. It features a width of three bays, a depth of six rafters, a single-eave hanging gable roof, a seven-rafter front-and-rear corridor-style framework, five-curved bracket sets with double upward extensions, one cluster of bracket arms per bay, and 45-degree angled brackets. The doors are patterned lattice panels with “卐” motifs. A moon terrace is situated at the front, surrounded on three sides by carved railings, balusters, and various floral patterns, ruyi symbols, and animal motifs. The Goddess Hall also sits on a brick base. The hall itself has a width of three bays, a depth of three rafters, a single-eave flush gable roof, and a four-rafter front corridor-style structure. The central bay features four-panel lattice doors with “卐” designs, while the side bays have latticed windows. Within the temple are three Qing Dynasty stone tablets recording renovations of Guan Yu Temple, one fragmented tablet, and two pairs of stone lions. Dongguan Village: Located in the northeast of Guoyang Town, Yuanping City, Dongguan Village covers an area of 10 square kilometers, with 1,856 mu of arable land, all of which is irrigated. The village has a total of 321 households and a population of 975 people. In 2009, the per capita net income of villagers was 4,555 yuan.
