Zhudongshe Grand Temple

The Zhudongshe Grand Temple is a cultural relic protection unit of Yuanping City.

The Zhudongshe Grand Temple is located in Zhudong Village, Yuanping City. Its founding date is unknown. It features a single-courtyard layout facing south, with a central axis that includes a mountain gate, bell tower, and main hall, along with side halls and wing rooms on the left and right. The temple is approximately 18.4 meters long from east to west and 36.7 meters wide from north to south, covering an area of about 675.3 square meters. According to inscriptions on the beams of the main hall, it was built during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty and renovated in the third year of the Xianfeng reign of the Qing Dynasty (1853). The main hall is three bays wide and five rafters deep, with a front porch structure and a single-eave hanging hip roof. It has bracket sets with three cusps, one set per bay, and houses over 10 square meters of Qing Dynasty murals. The structure is a remnant of the Ming Dynasty. The bell tower is a four-pillar pavilion-style building with a single-eave hip-and-gable roof. The east side hall and bell tower were “created and relocated in the third year of the Xianfeng reign (1853) and the third year of the Tongzhi reign (1864)” of the Qing Dynasty. The grand temple retains many of its original architectural elements and holds significant historical value for the study of Qing Dynasty temples.
