Former Site of the Operations Room of the Operations Department under the General Staff Department of the Central Military Commission in Zao Yuan

The Former Site of the Operations Room of the Operations Department under the General Staff Department of the Central Military Commission in Zao Yuan is located in Zao Yuan Village, Zao Yuan Town, Baota District, Yan'an City.

In 1943, the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee and Mao Zedong moved to Zao Yuan to work. The First Bureau of the Operations Department under the General Staff Department of the Central Military Commission dispatched elite staff to set up an operations duty office in Zao Yuan. In November 1945, the Zao Yuan Operations Room was officially established. The main tasks of the Zao Yuan Operations Room were to collect strategic movements, military intelligence, and operational information from Japanese forces, puppet troops, die-hard Nationalist units, and allied forces; analyze the military struggle situation between enemies and allies; study the development of the war situation; summarize combat experience; draft operational orders; and provide a basis for the CPC Central Committee and the Central Military Commission to formulate strategic deployments. In March 1947, it evacuated from Yan'an along with the CPC Central Committee.

The former site of the Operations Room of the Operations Department under the General Staff Department of the Central Military Commission is an important part of the Zao Yuan Revolutionary Site. On March 4, 1961, it was announced by the State Council as a Major Historical and Cultural Site Protected at the National Level. On October 14, 1996, it was designated by the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee as a National Patriotic Education Base among Major Historical and Cultural Sites Protected at the National Level.
