Jinping Watershed

Jinping Watershed was designated as a national nature reserve in July 2001, covering a total area of 42,000 hectares, accounting for 11% of the land area of Jinping Miao, Yao, and Dai Autonomous County in Honghe Prefecture. The reserve contains the largest and most well-preserved primary montane mossy evergreen broad-leaved forest in China.

It hosts 105 species of nationally protected plants from 72 genera and 37 families; 120 species of mammals from 29 families and 9 orders, 91 species of amphibians and reptiles, and 338 species of birds. Among the mammals, 32 species are rare and endangered; among amphibians and reptiles, 8 species are under national protection.
