Fuxian Lake Gushan Scenic Area

Fuxian Lake Gushan Scenic Area is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

Gushan Island is the only island in Fuxian Lake, located in the southern part of the lake within Jiangchuan County, covering an area of about 60,000 square meters. To the south of Gushan lies Haimen Park, while to the north it faces Lotus Peak on Bijue Temple. Every year on the sixth day of the sixth lunar month, locals hold a temple fair on the island.

The Gushan Scenic Area is located in the deepest freshwater lake in China — Fuxian Lake, covering an area of 85 acres. With its perfect harmony of mountains and water, and the sky seemingly touching the lake surface, it is incredibly beautiful.

The scenic area features ten scenic spots, eight pavilions, four wonders, and three marvels — a visit without seeing Gushan is said to be a lifelong regret. The Ten Scenic Spots: Lanhé Píng (Rotten River Flat), Nòngzhū Yán (Playing with Pearls Rock), Yúlè Guó (Fish Joyland), Námó Dòng (Nammo Cave), Tiānshēng Qiáo (Natural Bridge), Gují Fēng (Tortoise Ultimate Peak), Shěshēn Yá (Self-Sacrifice Cliff), Guānshēng Tái (Life-Observing Platform), Zhènyī Gǎng (Shake Off Dust Ridge), Liánxīn Shí (Heart-Linked Stone).

The Eight Pavilions: Qiūbō Tíng (Autumn Ripple Pavilion), Hàorán Tíng (Noble Spirit Pavilion), Yírán Tíng (Carefree Pavilion), Lànhé Tíng (Rotten Chess Pavilion), Shěshēn Tíng (Self-Sacrifice Pavilion), Xiǎnfēng Tíng (Precipitous Peak Pavilion), Shǐbēi Tíng (Historical Stele Pavilion), Chūnxīn Tíng (Spring Heart Pavilion).

The Four Wonders: Watching the sunrise at dawn, viewing fish play at noon, gazing at the fairy lake at dusk, and admiring the bright moon at night.

The Three Marvels: Unique rocks, unique fish, and unique water.

The Gushan Scenic Area is now a Yunnan provincial-level designated destination for international tourism, integrating dining, lodging, and entertainment for all-around services. It is an ideal place for leisure vacations and conferences. The island and the nearby Huanyu Mountain Villa are fully equipped with guest rooms, dance halls, restaurants, cold drinks, and other facilities.

Transportation: Previously, visitors could take speedboats from Jiangchuan Wharf to Gushan Island. Since August 2004, to protect the water quality of Fuxian Lake, all motorized boats have been prohibited from operating. As a result, getting to Gushan Island has become somewhat challenging. It’s said that water bicycles have become popular on Fuxian Lake — they’re affordable and eco-friendly, but the downside is that they can’t be used for long distances.

Gushan Island is a small island in the southern part of Fuxian Lake and can be reached by boat from Mingxing Scenic Area (Sunshine Coast).
