Tianhe Mountain Scenic Area

Tianhe Mountain is located in the greenest part of the Taihang Mountains at the border between Xingtai County and Heshun County, covering a total area of 30 square kilometers. It is 65 kilometers from Xingtai City and enjoys convenient transportation with beautiful scenery along the way. The area features towering peaks, deep and steep valleys, lush vegetation, and dense forests. Numerous waterfalls cascade like flying snow, while clear springs sing like zithers, with abundant water sources—making it a renowned “Taihang Mountain landscape.” The area also boasts rustling pine waves and herds of cattle and sheep, earning it the nickname “Cloud Top Grassland.”

The Tianhe Mountain scenic area has a rich cultural heritage. As early as the Neolithic Age, humans inhabited the Tianhe Mountain region. During the Spring and Autumn Period, Confucius once traveled here for his studies, which gave rise to the name “Confucius Rock.” During the Anti-Japanese War, it served as one of the main strongholds of the Eighth Route Army. Revolutionary sites such as the 129th Division Hospital and the Jinnan Bank (the predecessor of the People’s Bank of China) remain well-preserved to this day. In particular, the legend of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl is widely spread in the Tianhe Mountain area, with numerous cultural relics. According to research by multiple experts, this is the birthplace of the Cowherd and Weaver Girl story.

In 2005, Tianhe Mountain was registered as the “China Love Mountain” with the State Administration for Industry and Commerce. In 2006, it was named the “Qixi Culture Research Base” by the China Folklore Society and the “Hometown of Chinese Qixi Culture” by the Chinese Folk Literature and Art Association.

This is a shining pearl in the vast Taihang Mountains. Major attractions include: the Han Dynasty Archway Gate, Tianhe Lake, Mandarin Duck Pool, Tianhe Holiday Resort, Butterfly Fairy Valley, Green Lotus Pool (pothole), Lover’s Valley, Cowherd Village, Immortal Peak, Magpie Bridge, Moon Old Man Peak, Virgin Mary Temple, Confucius Rock, Cloud Top Grassland, and the “Number One Female Under Heaven,” among dozens of other sites. Additionally, the “Qixi Culture Exhibition Hall” and the “Ancient Chinese Sex Culture Exhibition” are also open to visitors.

Tianhe Mountain boasts the largest outdoor adventure training base in northern China and the steepest canyon rafting project in North China. With its large drops and fast currents, it offers an exhilarating and thrilling experience, earning it the title “China’s Number One Couple Rafting.”

Mr. Yang Liangcai, an expert from UNESCO, remarked after visiting Tianhe Mountain: “Such a scene belongs in heaven—how did it end up in Xingtai?” The enchanting love story of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl can perhaps only unfold in this fairyland as poetic as Tang poetry and Song lyrics.
