Taixi Temple

Taixi Temple is a Guizhou Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

Taixi Temple is located about 5 kilometers west of Zunyi City. After the Ming Dynasty, the Yang family, who were the native chieftains of Bozhou, established an estate here, which was then called Taixi Manor. By the end of the Chongzhen reign in the Ming Dynasty, Buddhist activities became increasingly popular, and the Yanxi Chan Monastery was built here. It was renovated during the Qing Dynasty and renamed to its current name. The existing structures include the main hall, front hall, and left and right wing rooms, forming a cohesive courtyard complex. Outside the mountain gate, there is a half-acre lotus pond, and behind the temple lies a vast expanse of forest, where bamboo and flowers grow amid ancient towering trees. Burials of the Yang family and the Zongyuan Tomb are scattered throughout the area. The surrounding rolling hills, once barren land, were turned into a thousand-acre orchard after the founding of the People's Republic of China. The Taixi River was dredged, increasing its water surface area, making the waters clearer than ever before. Fishing or leisure boating here offers endless delight. Climbing to a high vantage point to look across the river reveals a landscape of crisscrossing fields and scattered villages, presenting another unique view.
