Shatan is located in Shatan Village, Xinzhou Town, Zunyi County, Guizhou Province, 47 kilometers from downtown Zunyi. It combines beautiful natural scenery with rich cultural landscapes. “Shatan” (literally “Sandy Beach”) gets its name from a sandbar in the Le’an River that is surrounded by water on all sides.

The Shatan area features emerald-green river waters, fields crisscrossing both banks, bamboo groves surrounding farmsteads, and ancient cypress trees in the background, with an old temple standing proudly atop Yumen Mountain—offering an overall scene of serene beauty. From the late Ming Dynasty to the late Qing Dynasty, Shatan nurtured a large number of cultural figures represented by Zheng Zhen, Mo Youzhi, and Li Shuchang. Their academic achievements had a profound influence, leading to the term “Shatan Culture.” The existing former residence of Li Shuchang, “Qinshi Mansion,” along with the tombs of Zheng, Mo, and Li, are provincial-level cultural heritage protection units. The newly built Shatan Culture Exhibition Hall, with its classic and elegant style, showcases the development and rich content of Shatan Culture through detailed historical materials and cultural relics.

The main scenic spots in the Shatan area include Dabeige Pavilion, Luo’an River Embankment, Shatan Bridge, Shuihong Tree, Ancient Cypress Grove on Yumen Mountain, Yumen Temple, Cliff Inscriptions, Shatan Culture Exhibition Hall, Li Shuchang’s Former Residence, Qinzhou, Bijia Mountain, Huaqiu Mountain, Li Shuchang’s Tomb, Qingtian Mountain, and Dashaba.
