Gaojiadu Chain Bridge

Gaojiadu Chain Bridge, also known as Pujie Bridge, is located on the Beipan River between Xinjie Township and Yingpan Township in Shuicheng County, 80 kilometers from the downtown area of Liupanshui. The bridge is 79.6 meters long and 3 meters wide, constructed with 17 parallel iron chains, 2 guard chains, and 54 iron pull plates. It was built and put into use in the 32nd year of the Guangxu reign during the Qing Dynasty. Viewed from the riverbed, it resembles a soaring dragon — a breathtaking sight. Cliff inscriptions and stelae can be found on the stone walls at both ends of the bridge. Since its construction, aside from the destruction of the bridge pavilion and some of the inscriptions, the main structure remains well-preserved. It represents an architectural achievement in Shuicheng’s bridge-building history and is a provincial-level cultural relic protection site.

Tip: To reach the Gaojiadu Chain Bridge scenic area in the Beipan River Grand Canyon from downtown, take the Shuipan Line Class-4 highway for 80 kilometers. The fare is 20 RMB per person. Currently, the Shuicheng–Longchang bus route passes through here. At night, you can stay at a local farmhouse in Yingpan to enjoy rural cuisine or return to the city.
