Baoji Township is located in the northeastern part of Pan County, approximately 82 kilometers from the county seat Hongguo. The township covers an area of over 147 square kilometers, situated between 104°508′—104°58′ east longitude and 25°53′—26°02′ north latitude. The annual average temperature is 13.8°C, the accumulated annual temperature is 3967.50°C. It faces Longling Town across the river; to the south it borders Yangchang Township of Pan County; to the west and northwest it is adjacent to Yuni Township and Pugu Township of Pan County; and to the north it adjoins Huaga Township of Shuicheng County.

The terrain of Baoji Township is higher in the southwest and lower in the northeast, featuring continuous mountain ranges and complex landforms. The highest elevation is at Changshanqing in the southwest, which stands at 2,375 meters above sea level; the lowest is at the junction of the Geshuo River Valley with Huaga Township of Shuicheng County and Longling Town of Pu’an County — known as Dahebian, at an elevation of 740 meters. The higher-altitude southwestern part features a typical plateau climate, suitable for the growth of various economic crops and precious medicinal herbs. There are many barren hills and grassy slopes, along with broad grazing areas ideal for raising high-quality hybrid beef cattle and black goats. The large areas of forested and dry land are well suited for cultivating premium local black rice, garlic, and wild yima vegetables. The central region holds scattered lead and zinc ore resources with limited mining value. The lower areas, including Daping Village and Lujiazhai Village, are at lower altitudes and feature a hot and humid river valley climate, primarily producing rice. Cash crops such as bananas, sugarcane, oranges, yellow plums, and sharen are also grown here.

The area has dense vegetation and extremely rich animal and plant resources. Nationally protected wildlife includes over twenty species such as pheasants, white-faced deer, and rock goats; nationally protected wild plants include over thirty species such as camphor trees, red tung trees, walnuts, chestnuts, and orchids. The vegetation coverage rate is 46.2%. With beautiful scenery, it is an excellent destination for tourism and vacation.
