Pugu Liuche River Gorge

Pugu Liuche River Gorge is located at the border between Panxian and Shuicheng, with its exit in Huaga Township. The main part of the gorge lies within Pugu Township and is part of the Wumeng Mountain National Geopark. The water surface of the gorge sits at an elevation of about 750 meters, while the cliffs on both sides rise to heights of 1,500–1,800 meters. The river valley cuts deeply down to 1,000 meters, with the most recent erosion forming vertical cliffs as deep as 300–500 meters. The gorge stretches 20 kilometers in length, with steep walls rising dramatically from the ground, standing thousands of feet high. The riverbed at the bottom of the valley is about 10 meters wide, with gently flowing, crystal-clear water. The gorge twists and turns, deep and serene, with smaller gorges nested within. The mountains on both sides are steep and tower over the river, reaching high into the clouds with a majestic presence. At the mouth of the valley, the cliffs are adorned with yellowish-brown hanging formations in various unique and bizarre shapes. Nature’s masterful craftsmanship—carving, grinding, shaving, and scraping—has created these towering, rugged cliffs with striking peaks, forming a magnificent and imposing landscape. Together with the drifting clouds and mist, the highland fields, and the steep cliffs of Liuche River Gorge, they weave a beautiful landscape painting. Originally, Liuche River was an underground river formed along a fault line. Later, when the dome of the underground river collapsed, it gave rise to steep, towering cliffs in diverse shapes, along with millennia-old stalactites, creating the winding and mysterious Liuche River Gorge. Experts have praised it as the “Zhangjiajie of Guizhou.” Experiencing the scenery of Liuche River Gorge is a true delight for the senses.
