Wumeng Grassland is a national water conservancy scenic area.

Wumeng Grassland is located in Wumeng Town and Pingdi Yi Ethnic Township, Panzhou City, at an altitude of 2,000 to 2,857 meters. It is the largest and highest-altitude natural grassland in Southwest China. The scenic area features 100,000 acres of expansive, unique highland meadows, 100,000 acres of vibrant dwarf rhododendron forests, highland lakes reminiscent of emerald paradises—such as Tianchi Lake, the gently flowing Beimao Valley Stream, the "One Fall, Two Provinces" natural bridge canyon of Qingshui River known locally as such, the Silver Line Waterfall hanging on the cliffs, and the ancient Yi ethnic village of Yajiao resembling a Peach Blossom Spring. These uniquely beautiful natural landscapes and grassland charms captivate visitors, making them linger in awe and delight.

Wumeng Grassland is one of the highest-altitude and largest highland grasslands in Southwest China. With the highest elevation reaching 2,857 meters and an average annual temperature of 11.1°C, it is an ideal summer retreat. Here you’ll find boundless, unique highland meadows, vast dwarf rhododendron forests, enchanting alpine lakes filled with mystery and beauty, rich Yi ethnic culture, the rare natural wonder of the Buddha’s Halo, and majestic mountains like Niupengliangzi and Badanshan that embody grandeur, wonder, danger, steepness, and serenity. Standing atop the mountains of Wumeng Grassland, watching clouds surge over cliffs, eagles soar across the blue sky, and misty seas stretch endlessly, you’ll truly feel the vastness of nature and the boldness of great rivers flowing eastward.

The area preserves the original and simple charm of ethnic minority culture. During the annual Yi Torch Festival (24th day of the 6th lunar month), local ethnic people dress in their finest and gather on the grassland to sing mountain songs and perform the traditional Tiaodi dance, celebrating their festival.

Wumeng Grassland is part of the Wumeng Mountain National Geological Park. It features a plateau mountainous landscape dominated by basalt and karst landforms, and is one of the highest-altitude and largest highland grasslands in Southwest China. Located in Panzhou City, Guizhou Province, the scenic area lies within Pingdi Yi Ethnic Township and Sigai Yi Ethnic Township. To the east, it borders the Panzhou administrative boundary from Badan Mountain to Ganshanwuji, also defined topographically along the edge cliffs of highland plateaus. To the south, it follows the foothills of Niupengliangzi Mountain, from Jiangxi Street in Pingdi Township through Laomicuyakou, Zhichang, and Sujiaqing. To the west, it extends from the Qingshui River Natural Bridge in Sigai Township through Dadi Tou, Jishanjiao, Yujia Pingsi, along the eastern side of the Panshui Highway up to Jiangxi Street in Pingdi Township. To the north, it covers the area from Shiyakou and Dazhai to Shuitang along the foothills of Dahei Mountain in Sigai Township.

Wumeng Grassland enjoys excellent transportation access. It takes just one hour by car from Panzhou City to reach Wumeng Grassland in Pingdi Township, with the entire journey via highway. Departing from Hongguo, enter the highway from either Panshu Station or Hongguo North Station — get on the Shanghai-Kunming Expressway — drive 7.7 km from the G60 Shanghai-Kunming Expressway entrance and turn right — head toward Liupanshui — continue on the Shuipan Expressway — exit at the "Yuge" highway exit.
