Xiaochong Tomb Cluster

The Xiaochong Tomb Cluster is located in Hongguo Town, Pan County, Guizhou Province, and is a family cemetery. It was included in the seventh batch of Major Historical and Cultural Sites Protected at the National Level in 2013.

The Xiaochong Tomb Cluster includes over forty tombs of individuals who received imperial salaries from the Qing Dynasty since the Kangxi era, with official ranks ranging from the second to the ninth grade. These include titles such as Martial Generals, Chushi Lang, Dengshi Lang, Weiwu Lang, Wuyingjun, and Wulueqi, among others. Epitaph steles granted by imperial decree are also preserved. It provides physical material for studying the burial system in the Guizhou region. The cluster consists of 138 memorial archway-style stone tablets. The tomb steles throughout the cemetery feature diverse forms, unique designs, and distinctive shapes. Among them, the Hexagonal Pavilion Stele, Five Dragons Holding the Sacred Stele, and Dragon Claw Stroking the Beard Stele are extremely rare. The carving craftsmanship is exquisite, employing various techniques, and the patterns are richly detailed—an uncommon sight within the province. The motifs are ingeniously conceived and the styles exaggerated, featuring designs such as sphinxes and dragon claws stroking beards. The overall design, composition, pattern content, and carving techniques of the tomb steles fully demonstrate the artisans' exceptional skills, rich imagination, and their spiritual values.

The Xiaochong Tomb Cluster serves as a valuable physical resource for researching the evolution of stone carving art, human history, and feng shui theories in the Han Chinese regions of Pan County from the Qing Dynasty to the modern era.
