Yeli Stone Buddha Cliff Grottoes

The Yeli Stone Buddha Cliff Grottoes are a cultural heritage site protected at the county level in Fenxi County.

The Yeli Stone Buddha Cliff Grottoes are located in Yeli Village, Dianping Township, Fenxi County. Their exact time period is undetermined, and they are categorized as stone carvings and other artifacts.

The caves face south and are arranged from west to east, with a total of three caves covering an area of about 7.8 square meters. The western cave has a rectangular floor plan with three niches; the main niche statue has been weathered, the western wall has collapsed, and one remaining bodhisattva figure is preserved on the eastern wall. The middle cave has a horseshoe-shaped layout, with the main niche featuring a carved Buddha flanked by two disciples and two bodhisattvas, while the rest of the walls are heavily weathered and unclear. The eastern cave is damaged, with a domed ceiling; the main niche Buddha’s head is missing, but disciple figures remain on the eastern and western walls.

The Yeli Stone Buddha Cliff Grottoes are a county-level cultural heritage protection site.

Protected area: The boundary is defined by the grottoes themselves, extending 50 meters outward to the east, south, west, and north. It stretches approximately 129 meters from north to south and 143 meters from east to west, covering an area of 18,416 square meters. Construction control zone: Extending from the protected area boundary, it reaches the southern edge of County Road 578 to the north, and extends 200 meters outward to the east, south, and west. It spans approximately 439 meters from north to south and 541 meters from east to west, covering an area of 226,930 square meters.
