Wang Ruofei was a native of Anshun, Guizhou. He was an early revolutionary of the Chinese Communist Party and a renowned martyr of the "April 8th" Incident. In 1922, he joined the Chinese Communist Party and successively held positions such as Secretary of the Henan-Shaanxi District Committee, Central Committee Secretary of the CCP, and Secretary of the Provincial Agricultural Committee of the Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee. In May 1927, he was elected as a member of the Central Committee of the CCP. In 1931, he served as Secretary of the Northwest Special District Committee of the CCP. During the Yan'an period, he held various roles including Minister of Organization of the CCP Shaan-Gan-Ning Border Region Committee, Propaganda Minister, Deputy Chief of Staff at the Yan'an Headquarters of the 18th Group Army, Secretary of the North China-Central China Work Committee of the CCP Central Committee, Director of the CCP Central Party Affairs Research Office, and Secretary-General of the CCP Central Committee. In August 1945, Wang Ruofei, as one of the delegates of the CCP delegation, went to Chongqing with Mao Zedong and others for negotiations with the Kuomintang government, where they signed the famous "Double Tenth Agreement." On April 8, 1946, Wang Ruofei died in a plane crash while returning to Yan'an to report on work, at the age of fifty.
The residence was originally built during the Qing Dynasty by Wang Ruofei’s great-grandfather. It underwent land reform after liberation, and in 1982, the government funded its renovation and opened it to the public. The residence is a wooden structure with small blue tiles, featuring the architectural style of Qing Dynasty residences. Currently preserved are some actual pieces of furniture, materials related to Wang Ruofei’s revolutionary activities during his studies in Japan and France in his youth, photos of him working with leaders such as Mao Zedong and others, handwritten letters, clothing he wore during the Chongqing negotiations, condolences issued by the Party Central Committee and central leaders after his death, inscriptions and elegiac couplets from high-ranking Kuomintang officials, patriotic generals, and well-known figures from democratic parties, as well as memorial activities from all sectors of society and books and publications about Wang Ruofei.
In May 2013, the former residence of Wang Ruofei was announced as part of the seventh batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units.
