Jiuxi Tun

Jiuxi is the largest natural Tunbao village in Anshun City, and there’s a saying that “Jiuxi is like a city, just three people short of Anping (Pingba).”

Over 600 years ago during the Ming Dynasty, Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang ordered General Fu Youde to lead a southern campaign to suppress the rebellion of the King of Liang in Yunnan. After the war was settled, ten soldier families with surnames such as Zhu, Yao, and Hu found this basin surrounded by mountains on three sides and water on one side to have good feng shui, so they brought their families to settle here, establishing Tun and forts to guard the border and cultivate the land.

Due to Jiuxi’s fertile soil, vast land, and beautiful scenery, soldier-immigrants flocked here, and the village gradually prospered. Since the three settlements—Dabao, Xiaobao, and Houjie—were contiguous and shared a large common field, they were collectively referred to as Jiuxi Dam, named after the nine streams converging into one river.
