Maling River Waterfall: The Largest Waterfall Cluster in China

The Maling River originates from the Wumeng Mountain Range, flows into the Nanpan River at the junction of Guizhou and Guangxi, and stretches over 100 kilometers. Its landform structure is unlike that of an ordinary canyon — it is actually a rift valley. Some say it is the most beautiful scar on Earth. As you descend along the stone steps, the steep, mysterious canyon unfolds before your eyes. Walking at the bottom of this 200–400-meter-deep rift valley, you’ll see towering, jagged peaks standing in dramatic rows, and spectacular waterfalls with a powerful presence, filling the valley with a deep sense of mystery.

There are over 60 waterfalls and springs along the Maling River, and in just the 2-kilometer-long Cliff Hanging area, there are 13 waterfalls clustered together, forming a breathtaking waterfall group. The most distinctive is the Pearl Waterfall, where four pure white, soft cascades tumble down from a cliff over 200 meters high, appearing and disappearing among the layered rock strata, splashing into countless droplets. Under the sunlight, these droplets glisten like someone shaking a sieve full of ocean spray from above.

"Seventy-two waterfalls gathered in one canyon" — from 100 to 300 meters high, one waterfall after another, each with its own unique charm. Within just 1.7 kilometers of the Tianxing Painting Gallery scenic area, there are over 20 waterfalls. These spectacular waterfalls form the unique waterfall culture of the Maling River Grand Canyon. While drifting through the canyon, visitors can look up at the cliffs and see hanging vines and various rare and exotic orchids everywhere.

Transportation

Take a long-distance bus from Guiyang Long-Distance Bus Terminal to Xingyi. Buses depart daily at 8:00, 8:40, 9:00, 16:00, 19:00, and 19:30. The fare is 95 yuan. Then take a minibus from Xingyi to Maling River (2 yuan), or a taxi (approximately 15–20 yuan).
