Chiayi Wind Orchestra Festival Street Parade Reaches Climax – Free Outdoor Concerts Until Dec 25

The Chiayi International Wind Orchestra Festival reached a new high on the 17th with its “Street Parade Carnival”! It kicked off with a performance by the Municipal Wind Orchestra of Saint-Omer, France, followed by high-energy dances from the LUNA Dance Troupe and samba performances combining dancers and circus arts by FOCA Formosa Circus Art, giving the feel of a Brazilian carnival. This year’s event attracted 42 domestic and international groups. The parade started from the Fountain Roundabout, with Chiayi Girls’ High School and Taipei First Girls’ High School leading the way. Their professional wind performances, along with impressive baton-twirling and throwing techniques, captivated the audience.

Also featured were Japan’s Omi High School Wind Orchestra dressed in “One Piece” costumes, Pokai Elementary School’s “Star Wars” battleship-inspired float, and performances by the U.S.-based Matrix International Band. Stretching around 3 kilometers, the parade drew an estimated 20,000 attendees. Later, 15 groups performed an evening formation-changing show, extending the excitement of the daytime events.

From now until the 25th, there will be 70 ticketed or free ticket-request concerts at the Cultural Affairs Bureau Concert Hall. For outdoor concerts, locations such as Zhongzheng Park, Cultural Park, and the Cultural and Creative Industries Park are all free to attend.

With the slogan “Where there’s wind music, there’s Chiayi,” the “Chiayi International Wind Orchestra Festival” has entered its 25th edition. Focusing on three main themes — “music, tourism, and public welfare” — it aims to boost Taiwan’s musical visibility, enhance international exchanges, and promote local Chiayi culture and creative arts. In line with the local fame of Chiayi chicken rice, visitors who dine at 27 participating chicken rice shops during the event can enter a lucky draw for grand prizes.
