Chiayi City Flower Sea Festival: Real and Fake Yellow Ducks Meet in Joy

With flower seas blooming across Taiwan, Chiayi City is not to be left behind. The Chiayi City Flower Sea Festival kicks off on December 7, featuring a vast expanse of beautiful blooms including sunflowers, cosmos, and zinnias. To ride the wave of the Yellow Duck craze, the event has placed yellow duck-shaped balloons among the flowers and even invited “real ducks,” creating a delightful scene of real and fake yellow ducks meeting in the flower sea.

The celebration activities of the Flower Sea Festival will be held on both weekends, December 7 and 14, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the end of Yushan Road in Chiayi City. The Chiayi City Government stated that the flower sea covers approximately 18 hectares, with giant yellow duck balloons placed in the fields. The event has also invited artist Hsu I-cheng to create three fun scarecrow artworks with different themes, including the installations “Noah’s Ark,” “School’s Out,” and “Loaded with Goodies.”

This year’s Flower Sea Festival is endorsed by celebrity Feng Yuan-zhen. Starting at 4 p.m. on the 15th, singers Fu Chiong-yin, Lin Hsin-i, and Liu Hang-ge will take turns performing. The event site will offer free tastings and sales of local agricultural products, and various colorful flowers will be buy-one-get-one-free. The city government will also host a fun competition called “Farmers’ Market Move-It Challenge” to engage with visitors.

To facilitate flower-viewing visitors, the city government provides free shuttle buses. City shuttle buses depart from Chiayi Park Station, passing through BRT Minzu Parking Lot Station, Wenhua Intersection Station, Minsheng North Road & Zhongshan Road Intersection, Chiayi Railway Station Front Station, and Bo’ai Road & Datong Road Intersection, before arriving at the Flower Sea Festival venue, with one bus every half hour.
