The concept of greenways originates from developed countries. It refers to green, pedestrian- and cyclist-friendly corridors that connect parks, nature reserves, scenic areas, and historic sites. In September 2010, Chengdu began developing its own “greenways” — tranquil cycling paths along rivers, through woods, and across fields — aiming to draw visitors into the countryside to get close to nature and experience rural charm through outdoor activities. Along the Jiang’an River, the greenway stretching from Wanchun Town to Shou’an Town in Wenjiang District has been hailed by cycling enthusiasts as the “most beautiful greenway.”

Wenjiang has largely completed the construction of its “one main route and five clusters” greenway system (the Jiang’an River corridor, plus greenway clusters in Shou’an, Wanchun, Happy Valley, Hesheng, and Jinma), totaling 67 kilometers in length. This network fully connects the riverside greenway from Lüyuan along the Jiang’an River to Jingjiayuanzi, and has completed greenway clusters in the Happy Valley area, Wanchun Happy Countryside, Shou’an, Jinma, and the Shengyouqing Flower Base Ecological Sightseeing Greenway Cluster, all of which are now operational. In 2010, Wenjiang prioritized the implementation of its “Green Wenjiang” strategy. In line with the development goals of a garden city, the district optimized and upgraded its overall greening plan, improved the master plan for the greenway network, and advanced greenway construction throughout the area in accordance with the broader objectives of developing rural leisure tourism.

Shou’an Town: Shou’an Town is located in the northern part of Wenjiang District, Sichuan. To the east, it borders You’ai Town in Pixian District; to the south, it connects with Zhenle Township; to the west, it neighbors Tongping Town; and to the north, it adjoins Yushi Township. The town administers 13 administrative villages, 69 local communities, with a total of 3,321 households and a population of 13,246 people — including 6,750 males and 6,496 females.
