Baodun Ancient City Ruins
The Baodun Ancient City Ruins is a cultural tourism attraction.
The Baodun Ancient City Ruins, commonly known as "Baodun Ancient City," is locally rumored to be the "Menghuo City" where Zhuge Liang captured Menghuo seven times during the Three Kingdoms period. Archaeological findings indicate that the Baodun site dates back approximately 4,500–4,200 years, making it one of the four largest late Neolithic ancient cities discovered in China. It serves as a "living fossil" of the history of the Chengdu Plain and the "main origin" of the ancient Shu civilization. It proves that the Chengdu Plain is one of the birth centers of Yangtze River civilization and Chinese civilization, earning it the reputation of being the "Source of Yangtze River Civilization and Light of Chinese Civilization." It is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.
The site covers an area of 2.76 million square meters. The lower and middle parts of the city wall were built by piling earth, and square wooden-framed earthen-wall buildings have been discovered within the city. Located five kilometers northwest of Xinjin County in Baodun Village, Longma Township, the terrain here is unique—on the flat green plains, an irregular, undulating ridge of yellow earth rises like the spine of a dragon. Within the ridge, fields and ditches crisscross, and at the bottom and sides of the ditches, bricks and pottery artifacts are often found. For thousands of years, people have paid little attention to these features.
