Chengdu University of Information Technology

Chengdu University of Information Technology is a provincial-level undergraduate institution jointly established by Sichuan Province and the China Meteorological Administration, and is a key development project of Sichuan Province. The university was founded in 1951, originally known as the Southwest Air Force Meteorological Cadre Training Brigade of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. In 1954, it transitioned to local governance and was renamed Chengdu Meteorological Cadre School under the Central Meteorological Bureau. In 1956, it was restructured into a three-year vocational school and renamed Chengdu Meteorological School under the Central Meteorological Bureau. In 1978, it was upgraded to a bachelor’s degree-granting institution and renamed Chengdu Institute of Meteorology. In 2000, it was transferred from direct administration by the China Meteorological Administration to the management of the Sichuan Provincial People’s Government and was renamed Chengdu University of Information Technology. In 2001, it fully merged with the Sichuan Statistics School, which was previously under the National Bureau of Statistics. In 2003, it obtained the authority to confer master’s degrees. In 2007, it received an “excellent” rating in the Ministry of Education’s undergraduate teaching evaluation. In 2010, it became a jointly developed university by the Sichuan Provincial People’s Government and the China Meteorological Administration. In 2013, it was selected as part of the Central and Western China Basic Capacity Building Project for Universities. In 2015, it was renamed Chengdu University of Information Technology.

After 66 years of development, the university has grown into a multidisciplinary institution with a focus on information science and atmospheric science, characterized by interdisciplinary integration, and primarily covering engineering, science, and management. It also features coordinated development across multiple disciplines including engineering, science, management, economics, literature, law, and art.

The university currently has two campuses: the Aviation Port Campus and the Longquan Campus, covering a total area of over 2,100 acres, with fixed assets worth 1.3 billion yuan and a collection of more than 1.78 million volumes of printed books. It comprises 17 colleges, including the College of Atmospheric Science, College of Resources and Environment, College of Electronic Engineering, College of Communication Engineering, College of Control Engineering, College of Computer Science, College of Software Engineering, College of Cybersecurity, College of Management, College of Applied Mathematics, College of Optoelectronic Technology, College of Foreign Languages, College of Political Science, College of Culture and Arts, College of Statistics, College of Business, and College of Logistics. The university has over 20,000 full-time undergraduates and nearly 2,000 graduate students.
