The Leshan Bridge in Qionglai

The Leshan Bridge in Qionglai is a cultural relic protection unit of Sichuan Province.

An ancient bridge that weaves together the long history of an old town. The Leshan Bridge in Pingle Ancient Town, Qionglai City, Sichuan Province, is just such a bridge, with a history of over 130 years. Through the course of history and the changes in the town, the Leshan Bridge has undergone two renovations. Originally a pedestrian bridge, it was transformed in response to the times into a reinforced concrete traffic bridge, with the bridge deck raised 60 centimeters higher than before, and the original pedestrian bridge no longer in existence. Earlier this year, Pingle Ancient Town undertook a major project to give the Leshan Bridge a complete makeover, restoring it to its original appearance from over 130 years ago and turning it back into a pedestrian bridge.

After the renovation, the reinforced concrete surface was replaced with stone steps, while the railings on both sides of the bridge stand 1.4 meters high, with stone lions on the bridgehead railings identical to the originals. It is said that restoring the Leshan Bridge to its original form as a pedestrian bridge also helps better protect the ancient structure, reducing the load and extending its lifespan. Today, the former charm of the Leshan Bridge has finally been revived. Its restored appearance evokes ancient memories and has become a highlight of the old town.

Protected area: an area of approximately 610 square meters, bounded by the bridge piers of the Leshan Bridge.

Construction control zone: 20 meters beyond the protected area.
