On April 28, the “Silk Road Scenery, Drunk on Qionglai” self-drive cycling tour departed from Chengdu, Sichuan, as part of the “Beautiful China 2015 Silk Road Tourism Year,” with over 300 self-driving enthusiasts set to explore Qionglai, the first city of the Southern Silk Road.
Last July, the Sichuan Provincial Tourism Administration officially recognized Qionglai as the “First City of the Southern Silk Road” and Pingluo Ancient Town as the “First Town of the Southern Silk Road.” This self-driving tour adopts a more visitor-centric approach, offering a range of travel plans for enthusiasts, including visits to Pingluo Ancient Town, famed as the “Pastoral Song of Tianfu, Embroidered Beauty of Pingluo,” and Jiaguan Town, known as the “Water Village Tea Country.” Participants will also enjoy local cultural performances such as the “Bamboo Hemp Chant” and stilt walking, and will tour post-Lushan earthquake reconstruction settlements in multiple towns to observe the renewed post-disaster communities.
On the same day, Qionglai City also released several premium travel routes, including the Southern Silk Road Cultural Exploration Tour, the Enchanting Qionglai Classic Tour, the Ancient Temple Meditation Journey, and the Camping Adventure Tour.
