Wayao Mountain Qionglai Kiln Site

The Wayao Mountain Qionglai Kiln Site is located in Group 2, Gongyi Village, Guyi Town, Qionglai City. This kiln was first fired during the Northern and Southern Dynasties to the Sui Dynasty and declined before the mid-Tang Dynasty. It is one of the important kilns of the early Sichuan celadon Qionglai Kiln system. In 1991, it was designated as a provincial-level cultural relic protection unit by the People's Government of Sichuan Province, and in 2006, it was listed as a national key cultural relic protection unit by the State Council. There are currently two surviving kiln mounds at the site. Archaeological excavations conducted in 1988 unearthed a large number of daily-use artifacts, including bowls, plates, basins, beans (dou vessels), cups, and inkstones. The body is mostly grayish-brown, covered with a layer of milky-white or beige slip, then glazed with celadon. Most pieces are plain, though some feature underglaze blackish-brown painted decorative bands, circular bead patterns, and petal motifs. Stamped decorations are very rare. Firing was done using spacers, pads, pads, and columns in stacked arrangements, with no use of saggars. This kiln had a profound influence on the development of later celadon. Other kilns such as Shifangtang Qionglai Kiln, Qingyanggong Kiln, Dujiangyan Jinma Kiln, and Jiangyou Qinglian Kiln all had mutual influences and close relationships with this site.
