The Lugu Papermaking Workshop Ruins

The Lugu Papermaking Workshop Ruins are a municipal-level cultural heritage protection unit of Chengdu.

The Lugu Papermaking Workshop Ruins are located in Pingle Town, Qionglai City, dating from the Ming Dynasty to the Republican era.

On September 28, 2013, the Chengdu Municipal People's Government designated them as part of the fifth batch of municipal-level cultural heritage protection units.

The protected area extends 20 meters beyond the ruins; an additional 80-meter buffer zone surrounds the protected area as a construction control zone.

Pingle Town: Pingle Town is one of the three old-established towns in Qionglai County (the other two being Huojing and Guyi). There are no written records about the formation period of the town. After the establishment of the Sui Dynasty, in the third year of the Daye era (607 AD), Qiongzhou was renamed Linqiong Commandery, which governed ten counties. This was the first written mention of a place called Pingleba (note: in ancient usage, “ba” referred to a settlement of villagers) within the jurisdiction of Huojing County. These are the earliest written records of the name “Pingle.” In the early years, Linqiong Commandery under Qiongzhou governed seven counties and one supervisory district, with Pingle being part of Huojing County’s jurisdiction.
