Twenty-Four Turns Historic Trail Site

Located in Group 4, Xinli Village, Qingxi Town, Hanyuan County, with the Qingxi Confucian Temple situated 3,500 meters to the southwest. The Twenty-Four Turns is part of the ancient Maoniu Road (now written as 牦), historically known as the “Qiong-Zuo Ancient Road,” and features perilous terrain. Historical records state: “Wang Yang, the Governor of Yizhou in the Han Dynasty, turned his carriage back at Jiuzhe Slope; Wang Zun reined in his horse at the Twenty-Four Turns,” both referring to the steep and treacherous nature of this road. The path is largely paved with scattered stones and flagstones, featuring drainage ditches along the sides. The entire ancient trail is well-preserved and holds significant historical value for the study of ancient transportation changes, cultural exchanges, frontier development, and economic interactions in southwestern China. It serves as crucial physical evidence of these historical developments.
