Introduction to Luzhou Zi Huai Scenic Area — The Zi Huai Scenic Area is the world's only well-preserved broad-leaved evergreen forest belt along the same latitude. In 1989, it was designated as a provincial-level scenic spot. The area boasts distinct seasonal landscapes. In midsummer, the average temperature is more than 5 degrees Celsius lower than outside the mountains, earning it the reputation of a “natural air conditioner.” The scenery here is unique for its beautiful mountains, lovely waters, strange rocks, and simple local customs. The primeval forests in the region host over a thousand types of plants — including nationally protected and precious tree species such as ginkgo, Alsophila spinulosa, Cathaya argyrophylla, Metasequoia glyptostroboides, Taxus chinensis, and Zhangqiu. There are also hundreds of animal species, including frequent sightings of binturongs, clouded leopards, South China tigers, monkeys, and countless birds, insects, and fish. Experts have praised it as a gene bank for flora and fauna. The Zi Huai Scenic Area features numerous attractions and a wealth of recreational activities. Its breathtaking natural landscapes and distinctive cultural sights are sure to feast your eyes. Primitive spots such as Haoxu Cave, Qinggan Gorge, Zhonghua Gang, Azalea Valley, and Wild Man Valley offer a rustic, back-to-nature experience. Mythical sites like Sanxing Pool, Niulang Stream, Lion Peak, Piggy Watching the Moon, Monk Tang Stone Statue, and Overlord Canal are vividly lifelike, sparking endless imagination. The Dashitan Artificial Lake, a water recreation paradise, features a dam 33 meters high and 110 meters long, with a lake surface extending over 7 kilometers — an ideal place for boating and holiday relaxation. The Xueqianyan Waterfall is over 100 meters high, with a majestic presence like a Milky Way cascading from the sky. Other year-round flowing waterfalls such as Ladder Rock, Fir King Rock, Horse Urine Rock, Spider Den, and Fairy Pool are charmingly beautiful. The ancient Heiyan Temple showcases outstanding stone carvings, woodwork, and murals — considered the “Three Uniques.” Inside the temple stand two bold and exquisitely crafted Dragon-Hugging Pillars, a unique art form only found in southern Sichuan.
