Hejiang County Han Dynasty Stone Sarcophagus Museum

The Hejiang County Han Dynasty Stone Sarcophagus Museum serves as a science education base and a patriotic education base.

The Hejiang County Han Dynasty Stone Sarcophagus Museum is located southeast of the county stadium and was expanded from a Qing Dynasty “examination hall.” It covers an area of 1,743 square meters, with a building area of 1,026 square meters. The museum houses an exhibition room for Han Dynasty stone sarcophagi and another for Song Dynasty stone carvings, displaying eight exquisitely carved Han Dynasty painted stone sarcophagi and 65 high-relief Song Dynasty funerary stone carvings. In 2008, the museum was included in the national museum system. It is not part of the national free-admission program.

The Han Sarcophagus Museum is the only museum in China dedicated to Han Dynasty painted stone sarcophagi. It has been successively named the “Patriotic Education Base of Hejiang County,” the “Patriotic Education Base of Luzhou City,” the “Off-Campus Practical Base for Ideological and Political Education of Luzhou City Students,” the “Science Education Base of Luzhou City,” the “Social Science Popularization Base of Luzhou City,” and the “Social Science Popularization Base of Sichuan Province.”
