The Fan Changjiang Memorial Hall serves as a patriotic education base.

The existing Fan family courtyard, where the Fan Changjiang Memorial Hall is located, is 12 kilometers from downtown Neijiang. The old residence has a history of over a hundred years, featuring a post-and-panel structure with small blue-tiled roofing, representing a typical architectural style of southern Sichuan.

Fan Changjiang (1909–1970), originally named Fan Xitian, was born on October 16, 1909, in Zhaojiaba Village, Tiannong Township, Neijiang County, Sichuan Province, and died after being persecuted on October 23, 1970, in Queshan, Henan. He was one of the pioneers and leaders of China’s proletarian journalism; one of the most outstanding journalists in the modern history of Chinese journalism; and an accomplished leader in China’s science and technology sector.

It is also an educational base and a national training center for journalists. As a pioneer, trailblazer, and giant in China’s journalism industry, Mr. Fan Changjiang is not only the pride of the people of Neijiang but also the pride of the Chinese nation. His life was one of pursuing truth, daring to explore, dedicating himself to the country and its people, and making selfless contributions. He set a flag and benchmark for China’s journalism sector. October 16, 2009, marked the 100th anniversary of Fan Changjiang’s birth. To commemorate his glorious achievements and promote the “Spirit of Changjiang,” the Neijiang Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government decided to take this opportunity to launch a series of commemorative activities, including: building the Fan Changjiang Memorial Hall, constructing a Fan Changjiang-themed park, naming schools and venues after Fan Changjiang, establishing a Fan Changjiang School of Journalism, collecting and organizing historical materials about Fan Changjiang, assisting in the production of a TV documentary and film about Fan Changjiang, and applying to host the 2009 Changjiang & Taofen Journalism Awards ceremony in Neijiang.
