Dongxing Old Street is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

Dongxing Old Street is located by the Tuojiang River in the main urban area of Neijiang and enjoys convenient transportation. The original Dongxing Old Street, Hengjie, and Sanshenggong are typical Qing Dynasty architectural complexes, featuring traditional post-and-lintel wooden structures along the street. With a history spanning over a thousand years, it marks the birthplace of Neijiang city. In 2010, Dongxing District carried out renovations under the principles of “restoring the old as the old, preserving historical and cultural heritage, and recreating the original appearance.” The renovated Dongxing Old Street stretches 250 meters in length, maintaining the original street dimensions and courtyard functions. It retains traditional commercial formats such as teahouses, taverns, and Sichuan opera performances. It is currently the only old street in downtown Neijiang that showcases a miniature version of the city’s history and culture. Adjacent streets, Fengwo Street and Nongxiao Street, have also been revitalized to feature specialty dining, local products, and unique tourism merchandise, fully reflecting the historical culture and ancient street-town characteristics of Dongxing District. The old street theater serves as a venue for Sichuan opera — the soul of the genre — hosting regular performances by opera troupes. The scenic area has added three major cultural squares: “Strength’s Helper,” “Sail’s Soul,” and “Joy of Sweetness,” showcasing Dongxing District’s dock culture and street life culture. Additionally, landscape sculptures, the Dashan Seal Wall, and lotus sculptures highlight the region’s distinct Dashan culture, Yangtze River Culture, and Zhangxue culture. Seasonal events such as the Dragon Boat Festival Fair and Summer Beer Festival make the old street a lively gathering spot for tourists. It provides an alternative lifestyle experience away from the urban concrete jungle, offering a taste of traditional life in southern Sichuan-style residences.
