【Tiantai Temple】

Tiantai Temple was built in the 16th year of the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty (1751 AD), and originally had six halls: the Mahavira Hall, Guanyin Hall, Seven Buddhas Hall, Ksitigarbha Hall, Heavenly King Hall, and Three Saints Hall. In the 7th year of the Tongzhi reign, the east and west corridors were added. The tranquil environment attracted eminent monks such as Xinguo and Jueshen who presided over Buddhist rituals, drawing large gatherings of followers and a thriving incense culture, which appealed to many religious devotees and literati. In the 53rd year of the Qianlong reign (1788 AD), Li Diaoyuan, a renowned scholar from Sichuan who was residing in Luojiang after returning from Tongzhou, inscribed a stele for Tiantai Temple. The square outside the temple is paved with flagstones each about 1.2 meters long, providing a resting spot for visitors. Viewed from afar, the square resembles a large chair, offering a panoramic view of the distant scenery. It is said that the temple possesses rare natural spiritual energy, thus attracting many tourists every year.

Exiting Tiantai Temple and continuing forward, you’ll come across extensive pear orchards, part of the high-quality peach and pear industrial park in Lüoping Town. Every March, the site becomes a picturesque scene of “a thousand trees of pear blossoms like snow, and ten thousand willow leaves veiled in mist.” The annual Pear Blossom Festival and Peach Blossom Festival enchant leisure-seeking visitors. Come golden October, it’s also the perfect time to visit for pear viewing and tasting.
