Mianyang Yuntai Scenic Area
Introduction to Mianyang Yuntai Scenic Area The Yuntai Scenic Area is situated in Anju Town, Xi'an District, Santai County, about 35 kilometers from the Santai County town. The area is mainly composed of scenic zones such as Luban Lake, Qi Wangcheng, and Yuntai Temple. Qi Wangcheng served as the capital of the Qi State during the Spring and Autumn Period. To the left of the city lies the Mian River, while the Qi River borders its right. The two rivers merge southeast of the city, with a nine-dragon, nine-pier bridge crossing the Qi River. To the east of the city is Drum Tower Mountain, and to the west is Tiantai Mountain, resembling two giant dragons guarding the area. To the south of the royal city, by the two rivers, two lion-shaped hills overlook the Golden Bell Mountain behind the city. Surrounding the city are tens of thousands of Han Dynasty rock-cut tombs, all hewn into steep cliffs. The tomb gates are arranged in an orderly fashion, and viewed from afar, they resemble a beehive, hence the nickname “Hometown of Han Tombs.” Luban Lake is a reservoir known for its stunning scenery. There are 23 islands scattered across the lake, each with its own unique characteristics. Yuntai Temple was initially built during the Jiading period of the Song Dynasty and later reconstructed during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Since the Song Dynasty, it has been the second-largest Taoist sacred site in central Sichuan. The existing structures include the Three Emperors Hall, Huilong Pavilion, Corridor Pavilion, Ten Archways, the City God Temple, Heavenly King Hall, Nine-Room Building, Lingguan Hall, Zhenchen Tower, Bell and Drum Towers, Main Hall, and more. These buildings stretch over 1 kilometer, featuring rigorous structure and exquisite craftsmanship—even spiders seldom build webs inside the halls. The temple houses artifacts such as a bronze bell and cauldron from the 17th year of the Wanli reign in the Ming Dynasty, plaques and couplets, drafts of "Yuntai Shengjing" (Yuntai Splendid Scenery), the "Imperial Edict" from the 42nd year, ceremonial tablets, and an imperial sword. The Yuntai Temple scenery is beautiful, featuring unique caves, springs, ponds, and ancient tombs. Small bridges span flowing streams, with ancient cypresses towering above—there are century-old trees everywhere. The incense in the temple is perpetual, earning it praise as “a sublime realm akin to Penglai” and “a thatched Yuntai unparalleled under heaven.” The Yuntai Scenic Area is a provincial-level scenic spot.
