Liuying Guangdong Guild Hall

The Liuying Guangdong Guild Hall is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Sichuan Province.

There are several Guangdong guild halls in Santai, but the one in Liuying Town is the best preserved. The gable walls, barrel tiles, drip tiles, clay carvings, large wooden structural elements, small wooden structural elements, stone carvings, corridors, and steps are all truly astounding.

In an age without cement, the master builders of the time exhausted their ingenuity to devise various innovative construction methods.

The greatest feature of ancient architecture is the integration of artistry into the structure, making it a feast for the eyes.

In the year 211 AD, Liu Bei, in his quest to conquer Western Shu, personally led his forces, including the military advisor Pang Tong and generals Huang Zhong, Guan Ping, Wei Yan, and Liu Feng, along with an army of 50,000, up the Yangtze River to Jiangzhou (present-day Chongqing), then turned onto the Dianjiang River (now the Jialing River), and proceeded upstream along the Fu River through Pingshiang in Qixian County (now the urban area of Santai County) and areas such as present-day Liuying Town in Santai County, eventually reaching Fuxian (now Fucheng District of Mianyang City). After formally confronting Liu Zhang at Jiameng Pass (now Zhaohua County in Guangyuan City), Liu Bei then led his troops back along the Fu River, setting up camp at Shigu Dam and Dawei Dam in Liuying Town. The place got its name, Liuying, from this encampment.

During the migration of people from Huguang to Sichuan, people from Guangdong settled on this fertile land in Santai. To facilitate social connections and stay connected with their hometown, they invested heavily to build the Guangdong Guild Hall, where they would often gather. They lived in peace and contentment.

Protected area: East to the outer corner of the wall of the Guangdong Guild Hall, west adjacent to the residence of Wei Suhua and the Agricultural Machinery Station up to the outer corner of the stone retaining wall of the Guangdong Guild Hall, south adjacent to the residence of Wei Ronghua up to the wooden building, north backed by the Agricultural Machinery Station up to the outer corner of the wall of the Guangdong Guild Hall.

Construction control zone: An area extending 10 meters beyond the protected area.
