Zhangze Reservoir

Zhangze Reservoir is located in the northern suburbs of Changzhi City, 15 kilometers from the downtown area. It is a large-scale water conservancy project on the main stream of the South Zhaocang River in the Zhangwei-Nan Canal system of the Haihe River Basin. The reservoir primarily serves industrial and urban water supply, irrigation, and flood control, while also supporting aquaculture and tourism for comprehensive utilization. Construction of the reservoir began in November 1959 and was completed in April 1960, when it was put into use. The total storage capacity is 427.3 million cubic meters. With its vast waters and large capacity, as well as excellent water quality, Zhangze Reservoir is known as the "West Lake of the North," boasting a surface area 12 times larger than that of West Lake.

A dedicated tourist area has been established at Zhangze Reservoir. The majestic 3,000-meter-long, 50-meter-high river-blocking dam stands like the Great Wall, taming the surging river — truly a marvel of human engineering. The expansive lake stretches as far as the eye can see, where water and sky merge seamlessly. Boats glide across the surface, offering a uniquely picturesque scene.
