World Lotus Expo Garden

The World Lotus Expo Garden is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

The World Lotus Expo Garden is situated on Sacred Lotus Island in Guanyin Lake, Suining City, covering a total area of 2,280 mu. The garden features over 200,000 lotus plants of 720 varieties from 23 countries, spanning seven color series, including scented lotus, Egyptian red water lily, Australian white giant water lily, Argentine criollo water lily, American Colorado lotus, and “Earth-touching Golden Lotus,” one of the “Five Trees and Six Flowers” in Buddhism. The garden includes 13 scenic spots such as the Chinese Famous Lotus Garden, World Famous Lotus Garden, World Lotus Expo Museum, Sacred Lotus Guanyin Cultural Art Museum, Bird Forest, and Lotus with Fish. “Lotus with you, imagine the world.” The World Lotus Expo Garden welcomes you!

As an important part of the “Five Twos,” Sacred Lotus Island is one of the three central islands in Guanyin Lake. To comprehensively develop Sacred Lotus Island in Guanyin Lake, and to build an “original ecology–museum” concept, the Sacred Lotus Island Lotus Expo Garden emerged as the main project—rooted in “landscape ecology, inspired by Guanyin culture, and centered around lotus culture.”

The development of the World Lotus Expo Garden is a continuation and extension of Suining’s Guanyin culture, offering a renewed interpretation of the Guanyin Culture City.

The “Guanyin Culture City” primarily centers around the important Guanyin cultural axis formed by Guangde Temple and Lingquan Temple, along with the "Two Mountains" of East Mountain and West Mountain, the renowned Guangde and Lingquan “Two Temples,” and the “Two Towns” of Longfeng and Renli, collectively creating a significant Guanyin cultural district on both wings of the city. The lotus culture developed in the World Lotus Expo Garden is an extension of Guanyin culture.

With a lake in the city, an island in the lake, lotus in the city, and the city within the lotus, the debut of the Suining World Lotus Expo Garden has made lotus culture more tangible, blending Guanyin culture with lotus culture, and becoming another brand-new calling card for Suining—the hometown of Guanyin.

Admire miles of blooming lotus, gaze at the lake and cityscape, listen to the ancient temple bells, and enjoy a spiritual vacation... With summertime in full bloom in Suining and moonlight shimmering on the lotus ponds, come visit Suining when you can, to experience the scenery within the city, and the city within the scenery.

The total investment for the landscape engineering project of the World Lotus Expo Garden is 840 million yuan, covering an area of 75 hectares. This includes 198,286㎡ of lotus planting inside and outside the embankment; 6,600㎡ of waterside plank walkways inside and outside the embankment; 12,000㎡ of ecological slope protection outside the embankment; 185,800㎡ of landscape engineering outside the embankment; 544,959㎡ of lighting project; five dock projects; 49,000㎡ of pavement along the ring embankment road; 8,400㎡ of greening along the ring embankment road; two sluice gates; 34,000㎡ of garden paths within the island; 2,600㎡ of inner lake landscape bridges; 376,078㎡ of landscape greening; 4,000㎡ for the Ancient Lotus Water Market project; 19,524㎡ for the Inner Lake Plaza project; 30,665㎡ for the Main Venue project; 41,032㎡ for parking lot construction; as well as water supply and drainage, power and weak current systems, and gas supply systems within the island. The construction period is 18 months.

The project operates 24 hours a day. After intense and orderly construction, as of now, the lotus planting area covers approximately 619 mu. The plan is to plant about 200,000 lotus plants, and Lotus seedling cultivation has been fully completed, with the majority having sprouted. The survival rate reaches 99.9%. In addition, underwater structures of water-related foundation projects have been largely completed, the lighting project is expected to be largely finished by the end of June, and key nodes of municipal and greening projects will be unveiled by the end of July. The garden is scheduled to open to the public in early August.

In January 2019, after deliberation at the second meeting of the 2019 Sichuan Provincial Tourism Resources Planning and Development Quality Evaluation Committee, it was proposed to approve the World Lotus Expo Garden in Suining City and 20 other scenic spots as national AAAA-level tourist attractions.

Located on the eastern side of the World Lotus Expo Garden, built along the river, it establishes an ecosystem of “one lake, two mountains, three corridors, five wedges, and multiple points,” showcasing an ecological pattern where “mountains and water embrace the city, and the lake and city merge as one.” Meanwhile, ecological restoration has been carried out on the hardened riverbanks, forming a natural ecological shoreline where “the embankment is repaired but not visible, and wetlands take care of it.” Visitors can appreciate the lotus up close, creating a scene where people are among the flowers and flowers are among people.

Located on the south side of Sacred Lotus Square in the World Lotus Expo Garden, covering an area of 1,200 square meters, it was officially completed in May 2016. The museum is divided into four sections: “World of Lotus,” “Prestige of Lotus,” “Poetry in Praise,” and “Treasures of Fine Lotus.” Using modern multimedia technology combined with lighting effects, it creates display areas based on different themes, vividly and interactively showcasing scientific knowledge, legends, poems, paintings, as well as the medicinal and edible values of the lotus. It holds great value for tourism and science education.

Chinese Famous Lotus Garden

Located on the east side of Sacred Lotus Lake in the World Lotus Expo Garden, covering an area of 37,934.24 square meters, it is a Chinese lotus-themed landscape crafted based on the regional characteristics of 26 provinces, municipalities, and regions across China, as well as the urban landscape of Suining. It deeply interprets and ingeniously integrates the distinctive cultures—including those of Beijing, Shanghai, Taiwan, Yunnan, Sichuan, and Suining—with lotus culture, achieving internal harmony and external elegance. It is an ideal place for admiring lotus and taking commemorative photos.
