Famous for its clear waters, Königssee is considered the cleanest and most beautiful lake in Germany. For this reason, only electric boats, rowboats, and pedal boats have been allowed on the lake since 1909.

The water source of Königssee comes from areas with no agricultural or livestock activity, and residents around the lake have used pipeline-treated domestic water for forty years, so the water quality meets drinking water standards.
