Deng Shaochang’s Tomb
Deng Shaochang’s Tomb is a cultural relic protection unit of Sichuan Province.
Deng Shaochang was the father of Deng Xiaoping, with the courtesy name Wenming. He was born in 1886 and passed away in 1936 at the age of 50. In his early years, Deng Shaochang studied at the Chengdu Law and Politics School. After returning to his hometown, he worked as a teacher, served as the head of the Xiexing Township Militia, and later became the head of the Guang’an County Militia Bureau. Due to his modern education and worldly experience, he was open-minded, upright, and progressive-minded, abhorring evil and deeply resenting the corruption of the Qing government and the atrocities of imperialist invaders. He joined the local Pao Ge (a fraternal organization), became the third-in-command (“Dangjia SanYe”) of the Xiexing “Dock,” and was later promoted to “Zhangqi Daye” (flag-bearing leader). He campaigned enthusiastically, actively engaging in anti-foreign church activities and the Railway Protection Movement. Around the time of the Xinhai Revolution, a revolutionary army was established in Guang’an. The spirited Deng Shaochang joined the revolutionary army and became the camp commander of the new recruits’ training battalion, leading troops in local armed uprisings. Deng Shaochang was highly respected and influential in his community. His greatest contribution in life was guiding Deng Xiaoping to pursue studies in France—an decision that had a significant impact not only on Deng Xiaoping’s life but also on the fate of all of China. In 2002, the People's Government of Sichuan Province designated Deng Shaochang’s Tomb as a provincial-level cultural relic protection unit.
