Guang’an Jiang Clan Ancestral Hall

The Guang’an Jiang Clan Ancestral Hall is a cultural relic protection unit of Guang’an District.

Guang’an Jiang Clan Chongyi Ancestral Hall: The old ancestral hall is referred to as the “Hall of Venerable Sages” for the Chongyi Jiang Clan today.

It is believed that this ancestral hall was originally built during the mid-Ming Dynasty (approximately 1300–1500). The wooden structure consists of four rows and three bays with a tiled roof, about 1.2 zhang wide. A pair of majestic lions sit beneath the eaves, staring toward the faint outlines of the mountains. The exquisitely detailed wooden latticework adorning the windows is brilliantly ornate. The wooden paneling reaches up to seven meters in height, designed to prevent intrusion by wild animals, insects, and rodents. The grand entrance is flanked by four intricately carved lattice doors, all open and displaying an air of dignity and grandeur. It is entirely in the architectural style of the early Ming Dynasty. After restoration, the entire building appears both rustic and solemnly dignified—its appearance alone speaks of someone who has endured many hardships. Yet few realize that it survived the long period of war and natural disasters in Sichuan during the late Ming and early Qing Dynasties, having endured immense suffering. It witnessed the death of its masters in its embrace, saw the disappearance of people across the valleys and ridges, and found itself overgrown and smothered by wild vines and trees. It was nearly engulfed and lost among weeds and tangled forests. It survived solely due to the craftsmanship involved in its construction—its thick, solid beams and posts, along with the wide and deep drainage ditches on all sides—that gave it the "skills" to remain unscathed for centuries, maintaining its “golden body.” Fortunately, our clan members, during the “Imperial Edict to Reclaim Sichuan and Cultivate Land,” cleared the land and cut through the overgrowth to rediscover this enduring ancient structure. It was then designated as the Jiang Clan Ancestral Hall. As of today, it has stood for 600 years.

Thanks to emergency repairs undertaken by members of seventeen family branches in 2012, the old hall has regained its former glory, welcoming back the Jiang ancestors to be enshrined and worshipped. It is now a cultural relic unit of Guang’an District.
