Dashen South Sea

Dashen South Sea is a national AAA-level tourist attraction and a national water conservancy scenic area.

Dashen South Sea is located near National Highway 318 in the southern part of the county, over 30 kilometers from the county seat. It is a medium-sized reservoir formed by an artificial dam in the 1950s and is one of the largest water conservancy facilities and important tourist attractions in Peng’an.

When visiting Dashen South Sea, the first things that catch your eye are the majestic reservoir dam and the unique sculptured railings. The dam is 38 meters high and 219 meters long. On the outer slope of the dam, the bold characters “Dashen South Sea” are inscribed powerfully, while lifelike patterns of goldfish and dolphins ornament the snow-white railings. The entrance resembles two inverted sea snails, adding a unique charm. Further inside are the offices of the reservoir management department and a hotel for visitors to rest and relax.

Boating along the dam allows you to take in the beautiful natural scenery around the lake. Along the lakeside, the mountain foothills feature rugged rocks and gently lapping waves; the emerald waters glisten with shimmering light. On the green slopes, shepherds leisurely drive their cattle; among the dense woods, farmhouses are scattered amid wisps of cooking smoke; and above the blue sky, white clouds drift like silk as wild geese fly south. The mountains are islands set on the water, and the islands are mountains floating on the water. The lake and mountain scenery is like poetry and painting—it’s hard to tell whether you’re seeing the reflections of mountains or the palace of the Dragon King.

The most beautiful spot in the South Sea is Crown Island, also known as Mao’erliang, which looks like a floating, colorful cap. The island is covered with citrus orchards, and in autumn, the branches are weighed down by bright yellow fruits. Cypress trees, oak trees, peach bamboo, and reeds nestle against the mountains and water, forming a charming scene. The uniquely styled European-style building “Yingbin Tower” is splendid and resplendent, while pavilions and waterside structures are quaint and elegant. Against the backdrop of green hills and clear waters, they are particularly eye-catching, immersing visitors in exotic charm and making them feel as if they are in a fairyland or earthly paradise.

Dashen South Sea is known for its tranquility. Five mountain peaks form five peninsulas and numerous valleys, gathering over 500 plant species and more than 30 types of wildlife. Scenic spots such as Wuma Guicang, Elephant Trunk Mountain, and Mao’erliang have inspired many touching stories and beautiful legends. Historical figures such as Zhang Xianzhong, Sima Xiangru, Yan Zhenqing, and Su Dongpo are said to have visited or lived in seclusion here.

Dashen South Sea has become a “green eco-resort” that integrates tourism, dining, accommodation, entertainment, conferences, and business.
