Stepping into Peng’an is like entering the most classic picturesque countryside of the Jialing River basin. Sima Xiangru, known as the “No. 1 Celebrity of Bashu,” was born in this beautiful ancient town — the First Mulberry Grove of the Jialing River. This national 4A-level tourist area integrates five major brand resources: the most classic poetic countryside landscapes along the Jialing River, an influential birthplace of Bashu culture, a sacred site for timeless romantic love, a showcase of the concept of harmony between heaven, earth, and humanity, as well as the agricultural civilization of the Jialing River region. It has been lauded by experts and scholars as “the most romantic leisure home.” The entire tourist area stretches over 20 square kilometers along the meandering and beautiful Jialing River, divided into three sections, four functional areas, and thirteen zones. The three sections are: the core section from Jialing River Bridge to Xiangru Passenger Transport Center Port, the ecological wonder section from Xiangru Passenger Transport Center Port to Mawei Hydropower Station, and the new countryside pastoral scenery section from Mawei Hydropower Station to Zhongba Village. The four functional areas are: the Jialing River dock ancient town sightseeing and leisure area, the romantic homeland floodplain ecological sightseeing and leisure area, the water sightseeing and recreation area, and the new countryside visiting and touring area. The thirteen zones include: Xiangru Ancient Town—site of the county government during the time of Sima Xiangru’s residence; Zhouzi Ancient Town—which remains well-preserved to this day and is named in honor of Zhou Dunyi; Longjiao Mountain, Fenghuang Mountain, Mulin Mountain; Jialingjiang Village (comprising Xiangru Li and Wenjun Li); over 4,000 acres of virgin floodplain wetland along the Jialing River; two river-island oases spanning more than 2,000 acres each—Sun Island and Moon Island; Zhongba Village—one of China’s Top Ten Charming Villages; and four famous nearby mountains along the river.
