The Shrine of Lianxi is a cultural tourism attraction.

“I alone love the lotus that rises unsullied from the mud, and remains unstained though washed by the clear ripples…” Whenever I read these lines, I’m filled with an urge to see the place where Zhou Dunyi penned his famous essay “In Praise of the Lotus.” Lifting the veil of mystery, the Zhouzi Ancient Town in Peng’an greets you with the tender, dignified, simple, pure, and tranquil charm of a maiden, accompanied by the faintly moist breeze from the river. Strolling along the ancient bluestone-paved street, you feel as if you’ve traveled back a thousand years. Walk straight down Xihe Street, then turn left, and you’ll arrive at the town’s Pool of the Lotus, which connects to the very spot where Zhou Dunyi once lectured — the Shrine of Lianxi.

Push open the door of the Shrine of Lianxi, and you’ll see a bronze statue of Master Zhou Dunyi inside, whose form and spirit vividly capture the scene of his lectures back in the day. On the white marble walls on either side of the statue are carved his essays “In Praise of the Lotus” and “Explanation of the Diagram of the Supreme Ultimate.” Outside the shrine, the reconstructed Pool of the Lotus is also an ecological-themed pond landscape, featuring water lilies, swimming fish, a zigzag bridge, and pavilions, offering a serene and pleasant atmosphere.

Apart from the Shrine of Lianxi and the Pool of the Lotus, the Zhouzi Inn can be considered one of the places most closely associated with Zhou Dunyi. Legend has it that Zhou Dunyi once stayed at this inn, a classic example of traditional northeastern Sichuan residential architecture, whose unique design fully reflects the ingenuity of its creators.
