Zhouzi Dock

Zhouzi Dock is the oldest dock on the Jialing River—the millennia-old ferry of Zhouzi Dock. It earned its name because Zhou Dunyi landed here when he visited Xiangru County. Sima Xiangru also departed from Peng’an through this very spot. Zhouzi Dock is the last ancient town dock on the Jialing River, originally a natural stone wharf. The dock we see now has been expanded and renovated. Before the Qing Dynasty, it was one of the major water transport hubs along the middle reaches of the Jialing River. People from both banks and traveling merchants made a living here. The thriving waterway commerce brought prosperity to the dock. In those days, ships crowded the river like clouds, their masts standing in thick groves stretching a kilometer long. Goods such as salt were transported, markets frequented, and cargo loaded—foot traffic bustled, and merchandise overflowed. The sculptures on the dock recreate the bustling scenes of that period and encapsulate the culture of the Jialing River, the culture of Xiangru, the culture of Zhouzi, the dock culture, and local folk culture, vividly showcasing the rich cultural heritage of this millennia-old dock. Today, Zhouzi Dock has become a distinctive tourism dock, although its former role in driving economic development has gradually diminished.
