In ancient times, Peng’an was known as Puzhou. In the 29th year of the Kaiyuan era during the Tang Dynasty (741 AD), the prefectural seat of An’gu County was moved to Dayin County. In the first year of the Guangde era (763 AD), Dayin County was renamed Pochi County.

The Puzhou ruins are located in Pochi Dam Village, Chating Township, about 45 kilometers north of Peng’an County. The ruin site is bordered by water on three sides and backed by a mountain. Across the stream to the north lies Weijia Mountain, while it borders Qinggang Slope to the south, Yanfeng Tower to the east, and Maliu River to the west. The entire ruin is situated on a sandy terrace of the second-level plateau. It is approximately 90 meters long from east to west, 50 meters wide from north to south, with a total area of about 450 square meters. At the northern edge of the ruin, there is currently a pair of stone lions. Due to years of erosion, weathering, rainwater, and human destruction, only their rough shapes remain visible. On the eastern edge lies the base of the Relocation Governance Stele, measuring 1.8 meters in both length and width, shaped like a turtle, though the stele stone itself is no longer present. Within the cultural layer located 0.20 meters beneath the farming soil, remains such as foundation stones, pottery shards, and fragments of vessels such as jars and pots have been found. Within less than half a kilometer from the eastern and southern edges of the ruin site, there are four ancient wells that do not dry up throughout the seasons. This ancient site serves as one of the physical materials for studying the establishment and development of Peng’an County.
