Former Residence of Sima Xiangru (Catholic Church)

The Former Residence of Sima Xiangru is a traditional Chinese wooden structure. Both the courtyard house and the front hall have been well preserved. It consists of a front hall, a mountain gate, a main hall, and left and right wing rooms. The residence's courtyard and front gate building span a total of 600 square meters.

During the late Qin Dynasty, Sima Xiangru’s ancestors migrated from the Central Plains to Shu (Sichuan), passing through this area and settling down to engage in farming. They built two residences here; this site was later also used as the administrative center of both Xiangru County and the concurrently established Zitong Commandery, and afterwards served as the seat of the Pengzhou administration and the county government of Peng’an. It has been rebuilt multiple times. Currently, a courtyard house rebuilt in the late Qing Dynasty remains standing as part of the Former Residence of Sima Xiangru. It was later converted into a Catholic church. The residence's courtyard and front gate building span a total of 600 square meters.
